Is a tandem paragliding flight safe?
Like many other outdoor sports, paragliding can be practiced very safely. All vogelfrei pilots have a very high flying level, years of experience in weather assessment and make responsible decisions. This means that we have been able to guarantee safe flight operations for many years.
Can I fly in a tandem paraglider if I am afraid of heights?
Years of experience have shown that tandem flying is generally not a problem for people with a fear of heights, as there is no connection to the ground. We can recommend this wonderful experience to everyone without hesitation.
I am pregnant, can I fly with you?
We have often flown with pregnant passengers. Please clarify this with your doctor.
I have problems with motion sickness. Can I still fly with you?
In any case. We recommend the quieter times in the morning or in winter. Comparable to a boat on a calm lake, we glide in a calm air mass without any major rocking movements. A travel gum in advance or acupressure bands on the wrists (from sailing) can also be of good service to sensitive people on thermal days. If you are sensitive, please inform your pilot before your flight. If the worst comes to the worst, we always have a vomit bag ready in flight and can fly quickly and calmly to the landing site.
I have knee problems, can I fly with you?
As long as you can run 10-20 quick steps on sloping terrain, it’s no problem. We can land sitting down, very gently on the protector to protect our knees. If you have any knee problems, please inform us when booking and your pilot on the day of the flight.
Can I fly tandem with a physical handicap?
In principle, we try to make a tandem flight possible for everyone. If you have physical limitations, we can only assess whether we can make your dream of flying come true after a personal phone call.
I wear glasses, is there anything I need to bear in mind?
No problem, you can also wear your goggles during the flight, so your eyes are already protected against the airstream of approx. 30-40 km/h. Your goggles fit perfectly under your helmet during the flight.
Is it possible to take your own camera or similar with you?
We generally recommend our photo and/or film service so that you can enjoy your tandem flight to the full. If you want to take your own photos, think about a backup for your camera. In this case, we accept no liability for lost items.
In what weather conditions can you paraglide?
At vogelfrei, safety comes first when paragliding! We only fly in weather conditions that guarantee a safe take-off, flight and landing. It doesn’t matter whether it’s cloudy or sunny. Wind and wind direction play an important role, especially for paragliding. Our pilots regularly check the latest flying weather information and compare it with their vast wealth of experience. “Pedestrian weather” and the forecasts from general weather apps often differ significantly from aviation weather. We do not fly in strong foehn winds, thunderstorms or rain.
When is the best time of year for paragliding tandem flights?
Every season has its own special charm and advantages. The “best time of year” for paragliding is a matter of taste. Every flight is different and has its very own moods and impressions.
Winter offers mostly calm flying conditions and snow-covered fairytale landscapes. In spring, thermal updrafts are created that we can use right into the fall. Cross-country flights are now often possible. Autumn captivates with fairytale cloud and misty moods, golden landscapes and often unique plays of light and contrasts.
When is the best time of day for tandem flying?
In the thermally active months from April to September, flights tend to be quieter in the mornings before the thermals kick in during the morning and the air comes alive. In the afternoon, the local valley winds increase, which is why we prefer to fly the heavier passengers. As the weather conditions change every day, we attach great importance to individual planning and advice for your tandem flight in order to best meet your wishes.
Can you also fly in winter?
In any case. Glittering white fairytale landscapes and usually very calm flying conditions give flying in winter its special charm. Even with skis on your feet, getting down to the valley is a very special experience. Equipped with flight overalls, we are wrapped up snug and warm and can enjoy the flight to the full.
Can I book an evening flight into the sunset?
This is only possible for tandem flying in the winter months. The last time slot on the Nebelhorn is at 3 pm. At around 4.30 p.m., the sun slowly disappears on the horizon. While everything on the ground is already in the shade, we still enjoy the last golden rays of the setting sun. In the summer season, the last cable car leaves at 4.30 pm, but the sun doesn’t set until 9 pm or even later. We are therefore unfortunately unable to offer sundowners with guests.
How far in advance do I have to book an appointment?
The earlier, the better. Spontaneous bookings are often also possible on the day of the flight. We recommend that groups book their paragliding tandem flight at least 1-2 weeks before the desired date. We recommend vacation guests to schedule their flight at the beginning of their stay (buffer in case of bad weather).
How much does a tandem flight cost?
The cost of paragliding tandem flights depends on the flight and duration. From 114 euros you can fly with us at the Hörnerbahn in Bolsterlang (launch site Ornach). On the Nebelhorn, our flights start from a price of 174 euros up to the Bergwelt cross-country flight for 359 euros. Additional services such as photo or film services can be booked as an option.
Are there any additional costs, for example for transportation to the launch site or equipment rental / cable car?
The cable car costs are in addition to the flight price. These are already included in the price of the NEBELHORN PREMIUM and PANORAMA PREMIUM tandem flights. Many vacation accommodations include a cable car ticket in the price of the overnight stay. All flying equipment and rental shoes are free of charge.
Is insurance included in the offer or should you take out your own insurance or is it even necessary?
All vogelfrei pilots have the legally required passenger liability insurance. By concluding a contract of carriage with your pilot before the flight, you are automatically insured. Paragliding is not a risky sport.
How long does a tandem flight take?
During record flights in the Alps, flight times of up to 12 hours are possible with the tandem as well as with the solo. Our bookable tandem flights last between approx. eight minutes (light flight) and almost two hours (Allgäu mountain flight). Most flights are 20-35 minutes. However, it’s not the minutes that count for the actual flying experience, but the experience of free flight and the first take-off.
Are children allowed to fly?
We fly with children weighing 20 kg or more. Morning appointments are generally suitable for lightweights weighing up to 50 kg. There is no minimum age. Minors require the consent of a parent or legal guardian.
Can I choose a specific pilot?
Depending on availability, we always try to accommodate pilot requests.
How do you land when tandem paragliding?
You don’t need to worry about landing. When flying tandem, you land standing up, with a few relaxed steps or sitting on the harness protector. Depending on the landing conditions, the pilot decides this before landing.
What regulations apply in bad weather? Will the flight be postponed and will additional costs be incurred?
If your flight cannot take place, we will work with you to find a new date. There are no costs for this. Your pilot always decides whether the flight can take place.
